Career:

1981      Started competing in local and enduro races - age ten.
 

1986-
1989      State and national motorcross and dirt-track events - 80cc, 125cc and 250cc classes.

1989      First road race - Oran Park (Sydney) - Honda CR125.
              Won state 250cc production and 'C' grade championships (Suzuki RGV250).

              Winner of the Australian Motor Cycle News 'Win a ride' competition-prize, a ride

              on Yamaha TZ250 at Phillip Island.

1990      Winner - National 250 Production Championship.
              Winner - New South Wales Lightweight Superstreet Series.

              August 14th - Youngest ever rider to be promoted to 'A' grade.

              First superbike ride (Suzuki GSX-R750) and first time on slick tyres at Superbike

              support race at Australian Grand Prix - finished a creditable 11th.

1991      6th - Australian Road Race Championship
              (factory sponsored Peter Jackson Yamaha TZ250B).

              3rd - Malaysian round of the Pan Pacific Championship.

 

1992      4th - Australian Superbike Championship (Peter Jackson Yamaha OW01).
 

1993      1st - Australian Superbike Championship (Winfield Honda RC30). Australian

              Superbike Championship (Winfield Honda RC30).

1994      1st - USA AMA Superbike Championship
              (Fast by Ferracci Ducati)

              USA AMA Superbike Championship

              (Fast by Ferracci Ducati)

              First non-American to win the title.

              11th - World Superbike Championship (competed in four rounds -

              Fast by Ferracci Ducati).

1995      2nd - World Superbike Championship (Promotor Ducati 916)
              -Four race wins, fifteen podiums.

1996      1st - World Superbike Championship (Promotor Ducati 916)
              - First Australian winner

              - Youngest winner

              - Seven race wins, thirteen podiums.

1997     Only completed first seven (out of fifteen) rounds of Grand Prix 500cc Championship
             on Yamaha YZR500, due to contractual problems.

             Competed for the first time in the Suzuka 8-hour race with Scott Russell.

 

1998      3rd - World Superbike Championship (Ducati AD-VF)

              Led standings until final round at Sugo when warm-up crash put me out of action

              for the race.

              - Two race wins, seven pole positions.

 

1999     3rd - World Superbike Championship (Ducati Performance 996)

             Equal points with Colin Edwards (2nd position - 361 pts)

             - 3 race wins, 13 podiums, 5 pole positions.

2000     3rd - World Superbike Championship (Aprilia Racing RSV1000 SBK)

             - 5 race wins, 8 podiums, 4 pole positions.
